Our Mystery Malts invite the curious whisky drinker to use only their sense of taste and smell to unravel the secrets presented in the glass. Always a single malt, from an undisclosed distillery, a seasoned whisky drinker may be able to guess the origins of our secret spirits. Often chosen to celebrate one of the lesser-known distilleries in Scotland, the spirit from these hidden gems is matured in our own carefully selected casks, overseen by our highly experienced Whisky Creations Team.
From a distillery first built in 1798, off the west coast of Scotland, this is a youthful single malt bursting with beautifully heavy peat. Our mystery offering is a spirit known by the original distillery name, meaning ‘safe haven’. This outstanding malt will put a smile on the face of every peat lover and its origin may also surprise you…
By using this spirit whilst young, we have captured the best of its heavy, peaty character. This spirit has spent the last 6 months maturing in PX Sherry casks from our partners Bodegas Ximénez-Spínola, in Jerez, Spain. These casks have added deeper flavours to complement this rare, smoky spirit. A Mystery Malt to puzzle, delight and reward.

Nose: hot ashy peat, candied fruits, cloves

Distillery Notes
The Murray McDavid brand was established in 1996 by legendary whisky players Mark Reynier, Simon Coughlin and Gordon Wright. Murray McDavid purchased the Bruichladdich distillery in 2000 where legendary master distiller Jim McEwan left Bowmore to join the Bruichladdich and Murray McDavid team.
In 2012 Remy Cointreau purchased the Bruichladdich Distillery selling the Murray McDavid brand in 2013 to Edward Odim of ACEO whom stated "Our intention is to continue the legacy of Murray McDavid by staying true to its founders' vision and principles such as bottling carefully selected single malts without chill-filtering or adding colour and continuing and developing the tradition of ACE-ing our whiskies".
Over 8000 barrels aging makes it one of the most extensive collections of independent whiskies and rums in the world. Its storehouse is located at Coleburn Distillery in Speyside, the heart of many of the world's great distilleries, including Macallan, Craigallachie and Glen Moray.
