A blended malt, or 'vatting', is a marriage of single malt Scotch whisky from different distilleries. We at Murray McDavid love blended malt. Rather than celebrate the individual spirit of just one distillery, The Vatting range showcases the diverse array of flavours found in the Scotch whisky universe. These elegant complex whiskies offer a symphony of aromas and flavours that could not be achieved with one single malt alone.
Two single malt whiskies from legendary Islay distilleries – Bowmore and Laphroaig – were left to marry in a Sherry butt for over three decades. With 10% Laphroaig, the resulting whisky gives a gentle nod to robust Islay peat but leads with the flavours of Bowmore that was produced in this distillery’s much-celebrated golden era.
Being one of the most treasured whiskies within our whisky arsenal, each release is eagerly awaited. This year, we have further matured this venerable spirit in a Tawny Port cask from Caves de Murça, our partners in the Douro Valley, Portugal, which bestowed an extra layer of sublime elegance – a fine tribute to the Art of Maturation.
